Post Operative Instructions
Please note: The following Post Operative instructions may not all be needed after your surgery. We will send you "Patient Log In Information." When you log in you will see all of your instructions for your exact surgery. We will give you details on where to log in.
Bathing/Showering: You must only bathe using a sponge or cloth. Use Hibiclens soap as your doctor instructs when you are allowed to. You can not go in a shower or bath until the doctor allows you to. Do not go in swimming pools, lakes, oceans or hot tubs until the doctor allows you to.
Post Surgery Medication: You don't have to start taking antibiotics or erection control medication until after surgery. If you wish to start taking erection control medication before surgery, please advice us. Our surgeon will call in your medication to your local pharmacy or you can pick up your medication at the surgery center the day of the surgery. Find out from your insurance plan if it will cover it.
The doctor will go over with you how to take your medication. If you need sleeping pills for after surgery, please advice the doctor.
Pain varies from patient to patient. Some patients do not even need Tylenol. We will prescribe you pain medication.
Incision sites: Use rubber surgical gloves while cleaning the incision areas. Put on Hydrogen Peroxide and Betadine on the incision areas until the doctor permits you not to anymore. Everything is sold at your local pharmacy/drug store.
Sleep: You must try to sleep on you back for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery.
Sutures: The sutures should dissolve on its own. Do not touch the suture areas unless you are cleaning the incision sites with Hydrogen Peroxide and Betadine. Remember to wear surgical gloves.
Bleeding: Although bleeding is uncommon, if you experience any on the incision areas, apply a sterile gauze on the affected area for 15 minutes. Please contact the doctor if the bleeding continues.
Infection: Although an infetion is highly unlikely, please watch for possibly signs of infection. Please contact the surgeon if you experience unusual swelling, redness or green drainage. This can likely be treated with antibiotics. Also do not get the incision areas wet. Most swelling and discoloration is common for the first few weeks after surgery.
Dressing Removal: You will need the doctor's consent before permanently removing the dressing. He will give you a time frame as well. It varies from 1-3 weeks, which changing the dressing twice a day.
Sexual Activity: Sexual Activity (masturbation & penetrative sex) varies from which surgery you are having. For people that are having Penile Widening with Dermal Grafts or AlloDerm ®, sexual activity is not allowed for 6 weeks. Penile lengthening is sooner with the doctor's approval.
Physical Activities: Any type of strenuous activities should be avoided until the doctor allows you. Upper body exercises can be resumed in 1 week. Aerobics and running varies. With the Penile Widening with Dermal Fat Grafts or AlloDerm ® it is recommended to wait 6 weeks.
Stretching: If you are having both Penile lengthening and widening with either Dermal Widening Grafts or AlloDerm ® or BellaDerm (R), weights and stretching devices are not allowed until the doctor has given you permission. 6 weeks is the average time frame. If you are only having done Penile Lengthening, you are allowed to stretch sooner under the doctor's approval.
Transportation: The day before your surgery you will meet with the surgeon for a physical/consultation at his office. He will personally transport to and from the surgery center you to make you comfortable with your surgery. We recommend that you stay within walking distance of the surgeons office in La Jolla, California. Hotel Accommodations
