Gynecomastia can be significantly improved or eradicated with surgery by our board-certified plastic surgeon. The type of surgery we recommend to correct this problem is customized for each patient, and is primarily based on what type of tissue is causing the breast fullness. If the tissue is mostly soft fat, liposuction can effectively flatten the contour of the chest. However, if firm, rubbery tissue is present (usually right behind the areola), liposuction is less effective and I occasionally need to make a small, camouflaged incision at the lower edge of the areola to directly remove the excess tissue. Very rarely, and only in cases of very large breasts and areolas, are more significant incisions needed.
